What exactly is a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree? Why do graduates continually bring it up?
PhD is an academic-focused doctorate degree. A PhDprogramme typically lasts three years, with applicants expected to finish the programme in five to six years. The course duration, however, may differ from one institute to the next. To be eligible for a PhD programme, applicants must have a master's degree. Candidates may pursue a PhD programme in any discipline. In a PhD programme, students must choose a topic or subject, conduct extensive study on it, and respond to any questions that arise. Previously, applicants may pursue a PhD degree through distant education; however, according to a circular published by the UGC in 2017, a PhD programme pursued through distance education would no longer be recognized. Candidates who have passed admission examinations such as UGC NET, GATE, JEST, and others are typically granted fellowships while pursuing a PhD.
